Lol, I was wondering what you were talking about in the SR thread, mac. OP, any new thoughts yet? Turboing a high mileage car probably isnt gonna be worth it, like you said. Or, you could nip the issue in the bud and just do an internal rebuild on your focus engine with high performance parts... Thats kinda the route I went.

Could also look into a newer Honda Accord Coupe. I'm looking into them and the V6's are no slouch performance wise. 271 HP, 0-60 in just over 5 seconds...can be had for under $20k pretty easily.

I'd go for the Genesis myself. As previously mentioned,plenty of breathing room to tune the turbocharged engine (HKS did put out performance tuning kits that put down respectable numbers).

271hp on the front wheels of a really outdated platform makes for bad times. Also, the Accord coupe gets worse MPG than the Mustang. The Accord coupe is about as 'fun' to drive as a root canal.

Even worse than the Accord is the Altima coupe. Both are highly undesirable.

At those prices especially if you want FWD there are these wonderful cars known as the Sonata and Optima that have turbo Theta II engines that are more exploitable than Hondas V6 and if you want a mid size sedan with AWD the current Fusion Sport lays down 283hp and 0-60 in 6.5 and is generally a great car overall.

No manual transmission available on Fusions equipped with the V6 and/or 4WD.

Depends on which market you live in. Both of those vehicles(Hondas and Nissans in general) are a dime a dozen here in the Northeast.
