You'd recommend against closed box snorkel delete with an aftermarket filter?

No. That's not what he said. He was replying to a question. We are recommending a snorkel delete with the stock box.

This. For the overall cost and benefit, it's hard for me to recommend anything but an aftermarket drop-in and snorkel delete. I believe that it is the best combination for the average user.

I have nothing against any of the aftermarket intakes. For anyone wanting the absolute most horsepower/torque, the 'wow' factor when you open the hood, or the sound our cars make when running an open filter- there's no better option than the aftermarket systems. But for the average user who bought their car for mpg's and commuting, this setup is the lowest cost performer, probably the only one that can show a mileage gain, and won't be obnoxiously loud. No bling; strictly modest performance and low cost.

Finally got around to doing the snorkel delete. Super easy once I figured out what I was doing. What are the possible gains from this delete?

Why did you delete the box? I'd be interested in seeing dyno numbers of a car running a filter with no box to see if you even made any gains. Or at least intake temps.

If you notice a change it should be in terms of mileage and not power.
What do you believe is a realistic change in terms of mileage if there is one?

I don't have data to back this up, but is say around 3 over a few tanks of gas

There is no way to know for sure, because MPG is too subjective and contingent upon the weather, driving style, type of driving, etc.

All that can be said is that MOST found an improvement in MPG ranging from 1-5 mpg while others reported none at all and fewer reported a decrease.

Only thing to do is give it a try, see where you are after, as Duane said, 3 tanks. It is such a fast and quick mod that you can swap nearly anytime you want.
