GOOGLE "Ford Focus DCT transmission" ..... and then see if you think anyone (after having done that) would buy a car with a Ford DCT transmission .... you don't even have to go beyond two pages of results to get the gist of it. These issues are NOT a matter of 'a few bad transmissions' or people being uneducated about them or Americans being complainers.

THAT is why Ford is not promoting it as such (or trying to educate people about it), it's why they're doing everything in their power to label it just another 'automatic transmission'. The last thing they want to do is draw attention during a sales pitch to 'DCT' anything.

Okay, i did just that and for fun I also googled VW DSG and BMW vanos and BMW HPFP and Their tranny as well. Do you think the Focus is some golden goose that has unique DCT related problems?

When it approaches full blown NHTSA mandated recall we can come back to this. Until then all you pissed off owners are spreading a lot of FUD. I'm not saying you can't be mad, just stop thinking you represent the majority of owners.













Actually, all of this is rather academic.

Just because people search for these things te most or make the most threads about them doesn't mean it's a pandemic. It doesn't mean the product is a flop. It doesn't mean we bought something inherently broken.

You're making a classic mistake thinking that just because there are so many threads and people complaining that there must be a genuine problem.

The ONLY people that get to bitch the way you are is if you've had genuine transmission failure. Or if you owned a Mustang and had grenaded transmissions. Or if you owned a BMW that was plagued with VANOS and HPFP issues that were confirmed and escalated to absurd levels, a class action was even filed because of it I believe.

But to think that just because Focus Fantics has 2 trillion posts about why the DCT sucks doesn't mean it's a broken technology.

Subjectively we can say what we want.

Objectively? We shouldn't and can't comment.

We don't have definitive numbers on ISSUES per, say 1000 vehicles sold. We have complaints per thousand, but complaints do not equal issues and you're also making that mistake.

Not what I saw from Google ... I saw 4 bad things on the first page alone.

One from NY Times ... one from Edmunds ... one from here (150+ pages long) ... and one from blogs.cars.com by a user.

I thought we were talking about the Ford DCT anyway ... it does no one any good to say OK ... the Ford DCT has issues ... but so do everybody else's. How does that help in the discussion of FORD's issues ? All your post proves is that DCT's aren't yet ready for prime time ... no matter the manufacturer.

I second the Veloster "issues".

I have one.

The same "issues" complained about here are also littered on that site.

No, we are discussing the "issues" and "complaints" as REV brought up and we simply fired back with examples from other brands.

What mistake did Ford make? It's marketing? Or it's design? It's cheap to fix one, not the other.

It doesn't help that Americans have been brainwashed by shitty automatics that trade in performance and efficiency for simply being very smooth but if the consumer isn't willing to learn about what they bought on their own I can't fault Ford for that.

The Focus is still top 3 material.

I wouldn’t because I am disappointed in the way the car works. I would be concerned that based on my recommendation some else may buy a car that has the same issues as mine.
