Your dealer can, but they must know how and be willing.

They have to enter IDS WITHOUT entering the VIN. Then they will have the option of turning on the fogs. Of course, it will have to be redone if they ever reflash your system for any reason (e.g., an update from a TSB)...

Most dealers will NOT enter IDS without the serial number and do this, but with the sales department behind you, perhaps you can leverage it.

Good luck, wish you success!

@OPsDad,
Thank you for your timely response! I think my dealer has no clue. I asked that they include the lights when I bought it and they said it couldn't be done (which was before I read this thread). There seems to be an abundance of dealers around though so I'll have to search around.

One other question: If I do this installation myself will I hose up the warranty? I might have to just hand over the parts to an "authorized service dealer".

They shouldn't void your warranty as long as you do it right with factory parts. They shouldn't even notice

Still awaiting a response from dealer, but, in regards to the OEM switch (contains fog light switch, headlights and trunk lid switch) recommended by Tiger-Heli, I imagine if someone wants to bypass the CPM (maybe because the dealer doesn't know how to change the CPM using IDS or is being uncooperative) they could wire the newly installed switch to a separate relay (aftermarket) then have that go to the fog lamps, but, I don't know how that would affect the guarantee. In looking at other threads dealing with the 2012 S, there seems be some conflicting stories in regards to the guarantee maybe depending what country you live in. I am truly guessing and looking for any feedback that could give myself and others clarity.

An update ... I called the service department at the dealer where I bought the car and explained what I was doing. They said changing the CPM with IDS would be no problem. It should be noted, however, that if for some reason your car needs an update or change to the CPM software, they will probably reprogram it without the fog light feature enabled unless you remember to tell them to enable it when they do that. Of course you may not know that they reprogrammed your CPM if your car is in there for regular servicing and they need to do it for some reason (software upgrades, performance adjustments, etc.).

OEM switch is NOT a switch, it is a digital control module. There's no way to wire it to anything, there's just a digital output port that connects to the harness (data bus to the BCM, nothing else).

Good to know. So, unless you go the aftermarket manual switch route (usually not an option), you need to know that your Ford dealer's service department will need to be a part of the picture when doing the install. Thanks OPsDad!

You've got it, and you're very welcome. I wish you success!

There are a LOT of unknowns here. To clarify:
  • To use the factory fog light switch, you HAVE to have the BCM re-programmed by the dealer using the VIN (as-built codes) of another car that originally had fog lights. The dealer may or may not be able to do that, but I don't think we've ever had a member say they were successful.
  • The 2012 "S" has fog light wiring, but no fog light fuse in the BCM. The 2013 SE and S has a fuse in the BCM but no fog light wiring. Overall, the 2012 is an easier install, but nobody has gotten it to work with the factory switch.
  • The factory swtich is digital and databus controlled. It MIGHT be possible to install a contact switch behind the button, but nobody has successfully done so.
  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuso...s_Warranty_Act - you might have to argue with your dealer, but essentially, you can't void your warranty with this - your only limitation is if the failure is CAUSED by your action. (If the valve cover gasket leaks, it is covered by the warranty. If the relay that you add is wired incorrectly and shorts out the BCM - you have to buy a new BCM. If the relay is wired correctly and the BCM fails - it SHOULD be covered by the warranty - but this is where it can get dicey, b/c you have to prove that the BCM failed due to a defect and not due to your added wiring. Personally, I wouldn't worry about warranty issues with this if it were my car, though.

@Tiger-Heli,

So, to clarify, if you have a 2013 200A you have to tell the Ford service department to program it using a 2013 201A VIN number or some other 2013 package that has fog lights. That might be a little hard to pull off unless you have an intimate relationship with a service mechanic.

I thought I saw a thread somewhere that said the feature could be programmed without using the VIN number. Is that possible?
