SVT Transmission completely screwed...

I swear just one thing after another..So since we bought this car we have not had a single issues with the trans..Clutch doesn't slip, doesn't grind going into gear..Nothing..Other day my husband was sitting outside waiting for me to come out of the grocery store with the car off..I come out..He starts the car looks at me and says "Its stuck in 4th gear...Won't come out". My first assumption was that he was joking around but nooo it had to be true..He ended up driving it in 4th gear all the way to the house..So I'm sure the clutch is toast now too.

Anyhow, tore everything out to get a good look at the shift cables on the trans. They are on there fine...Now, the top shift tower on the trans moves fine. But the bottom one is just frozen stuck..Will not move at all period. The shifter in the car will only move up and down and won't go side to side at all.

Needless to say we've assumed the worst...But any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated..But from what we have been told its time to start hunting for a new transmission or looking into getting this one rebuilt. Just crazy how something like this can just come out of no where!?

I have a tranny out of a friends 2002 SVTF for sale. It has 61K miles on it and he takes great care of his cars (changed the fluid in this tranny every 10K miles with ONLY Ford OEM Synthetic MTF that Ford calls for). No need for a tranny guys..Changed the shift cables and all is good now..Apparently if just one shift cable pops off then it gets stuck in gear..Car shifts better then ever now..Plus we deleted the counterweight and the shifting is amazing now!

I'm glad to hear it was a fairly simple fix. Removing the counter weight is the single best modification I have made to my car so far.

After replacing the shifter cable how much left to right wiggle do you get when you transmission has been pushed into a gear? I'm trying to get my shifter tightened up but because I hate the shifter play.

its about the same as before honestly guess the shifter in foci's are a little sloppy when it comes to side to side shifter play, but the gears are much easier to find now with the new cables

Off subject but I need to replace my shifter cables also bc as the weathers got colder (only on cold starts) after the cars been sitting overnight/etc it's hard to get into R. I was going to buy brand new cables from Ford bc I get OEM parts at cost through the Ford dealership my fathers the Service Director at.

Where did you buy, what brand of cables did you buy and how much were they?
