What do you guys think of putting a exhaust on a 4 cylinder car? Sounds good or riced?

What sounds good is all in the ear of the beholder.... What may be rice to some is not so rice to others.

That being said you can get 4 cylinder exhaust that have a pretty decent tone, not all 4 cylinder exhaust setups sound like a nasty beehive like that one!

If you're looking for an exhaust that makes your 2.0L I4 sound like a V8. It's not going to happen. The only way to do that is to add 4 more cylinders or 3.0L of displacement.

Depends, just research some cat-back set ups for your car. I would not straight pipe it (like in the video) if you're worried about rice

Moved to the General Car chat area since your not having a "Technical" problem.

It depends on the size & the exhaust system. A 23 w/ a longer stroke is going to sound different then a 20. Add a header & a couple of Magna flow mufflers & a resonantor & it'd sound desent. Like it was said= its a standard 4 cylinder w/ a regular 4 cylinder firing order. Compare that to a Scooby motor. Listen to a v/8 w/ a flat crank & 180 degree headers & then compare that to a regular v/8.

IMHO, If you aren't going to make a bunch of horsepower, why make a bunch of noise? The marginal benefits are pretty small.

ALL car fours sound riced to me, the exhaust system has to be too long. But then I'm used to the clean sound of a short piped megaphoned inline four bike. I don't even like the canisters now so popular, throwing away power if you ask me.

To be honest with you. You don't get much more rice than the sound of an I4 sport bike! They are the epitome of rice. Taking the RPM up past 11,000 doesn't make it sound any more North American...Just saying. ;)
