The 80's series is designed for smaller engines, like our 4 cylinders. The 40's and 44's are more for V8's and the like, but honestly I think any of them would sound decent on our cars. We actually have a very impressive exhaust tone for a 4 cylinder. Honestly, I was going to do a Flowmaster on mine, but I decided on the Magnaflow. It's essentially just a big resonator, but it's called a muffler, so I still pass emissions inspections. What they use on the Flowmaster kit for our cars is actually a 50 series, so you may want to check that out.

Cherry Bomb makes a decent product. Most of their mufflers are essentially just big resonators, too, but they're labeled as mufflers. I went with my choice for the sound I wanted and the best performance for the price. Check videos on youtube, check out sites that have sound clips, and decide what YOU want.

That sounds awesome BaconZombie! I want to do this to mine. You said you replaced the front muffler, then just basic piping to the back of the car? This sounds better and is way cheaper than the cat back systems I've seen. Thanks!

Happy to help. Several months later and I'm still very happy with the way my car sounds. It shocks a lot of people how good a little 2.0l 4 cylinder can sound. I hope to get a better video soon, once I get my wheels painted...

Ok BaconZombie, I went to a muffler shop and they quoted me 250 to do this, that price included the muffler. The manager warned me about back flow from not having the resonater. Is this really a problem? Can it damage the engine? Does this void the warranty? Thanks in advance for any help.

The resonator is too far back in the system to change any kind of back flow issues. This is essentially the same set up as the FSWerks race exhaust, and I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing. As long as you're not removing your cat, you won't have any issues with "back flow". The person you spoke with is a little over cautious. I've had this exhaust on my car for months with zero issues. So have several other people. No worries!!

P.S. It will only void the warranty on the exhaust.

That 80 series on the Mazda sounds pretty damn good. I'm moving into a place with a full heated Garage in a few weeks. I plan on doing a little bit of work then. I want to do similar to op. No lunch box and then a good muffler or resonator with a good sound.

Hey Bacon -

Do you have any other videos of that exhaust? I watched what you have posted on youtube...and they're all low RPM videos.

Do you happen to have anything video with more of a load on the engine?
