I definitely prefer the dry flow myself as I hate dealing with oiling those K&N filters
I love the AEM myself, they provide better filtration than K&N, but aren't they also usually a bit larger to allow the same airflow as a K&N?

Will it fit with the lid on?

Will any of these help increase MPG? (id assume they would only help when the engine is revved up high which probably negates any gains?)

The best mpg's I've gotten were with the drop-in filter, lid on, snorkel delete, and flap cut (behind the d/s whisker). Anything before or after has been less for my commute. If I was making highway/interstate commutes then the Newmission I did after would probably be better.

Sent from my stupid phone.

The AEM is a cone opposed to K&N's cylinder so the filter's surface area will be smaller. Both filters have a 6.25" base diameter, but the aem tapers to 5.25".

So the lid should fit.

Here's what I did to mine. Made an insert out of some chromed, decorative sheet metal, backed it with some screen, made a fancy cut-out, and bolted it in. Straight-up, it was too loud for me, so I've been experimenting with an insert that I can "tune" by varying the size of the cutout. Insert goes underneath everything, so it's not even visible. K&N Drop-in, snorkle delete btw.
Photobucket's freaking-out right now--I'll get a pic up later.

Is the AEM dryflow filter linked here a drop-in replacement for the stock air filter, the way that the K&N is?

You have to watch out using other filters that are not supported on the far end, like the OEM and K&N filters are. The band that secures the filter to the MAF housing will not hold the filter forever, and you can't tighten the band enough to do so (the MAF housing will collapse).

I tried this, and ended up with a check engine light, poor idle, and surging throttle. I even started a thread about it.

Seemed like a good idea at the time, since I prefer nano-fiber media over oiled cotton.

In case anyone still cares or doesn't know since this thread went cold, the exact AEM Dryflow is AE-20993 and you can get them for $35 shipped off eBay... no tapering cone on this part number... This and snorkel delete should be a decent upgrade for $35. :)
