Uk Focus/Heater control knob fix

First post so here goes..
UK Focus 2006. The hot /cold center knob no longer changes heat to warm. Managed to remove CD/radio and can see the problem. On the UK cars ? don't know about US, the hot/cold knob is attached to the control panel by a 3inch wire cable that has a plastic loop on. This had come off. Great- just thought I would re-attach- but won't stay on. is it held in place by anything- or does the cable (its just wire) have to run in a certain way ? Diagram would be great. Thanks !

The wires are usually integrated into the plastic (or whatever it attaches to/is held by) from the manufacturer... kinda like the trans dipsticks that have a plastic handle and a cable indicator "stick".

If you can get the room back there, could you use a good set of high-leverage pliers and a crimp?
