I don't think they've announced plans to release the RS in the states, the ST will probably be as good as it gets.

There have been rumors going back as far as the announcement of the Mark 3 Focus that Ford would finally bring the RS over here, or to put in a better way, they would BUILD the RS here.

The last RS was built in Germany and was damn expensive to bring over, there are MAYBE 5 RSs in all of North America right now, and most of those are probably Ford owned examples.

Why would you be mad at any rate? The RS of old was a torque steering monster with little regard for being highly practical or remotely soft. It was on the level of the STI in how 'brutal' the setup for the suspension was. Essentially, it wouldn't be a car for everyone and like the STI or Evo it would sell in far smaller numbers.

I don't think you are really missing out, the 2.3 is going to be a 2.0 based 2.3 but if you really want more power then by all means chip your 2.0 you'll probably break 300 with simple mods. The only major addition I can see on the RS is Ford putting in the Revoknuckle suspenion setup to combat the hellacious torque steer that would probably come from a FWD car pushing 350HP. Even then, the costs would put it on STI levels of bankruptcy.

I always thought the RS was AWD, not FWD.

The last issue of Car & Driver mentioned a "release date" for the RS in 2013-2014.
