It's still doesn't change the fact that it will be too big and expensive for someone who wants a small efficient pick-up for the 2 or 3 times a year they really need it.

I think its a huge mistake. America is the land of the truck. I've been all over- The Netherlands, Italy, South Africa... and its a rarity to see any consumer trucks. There are some Subaru Baja style "trucks" but I hardly ever see Rangers, let alone F-150's. Maybe I've just been going to the wrong parts of Europe? They're a little bit more common in central America, but the US by FAR seems to be their biggest market.
Here in WA, small trucks like the Ranger are EVERYWHERE. Between the snow and constant rain, having a small, inexpensive 4wd spare vehicle is extremely common. I even almost bought an old ranger last winter since we got so much snow... I say bring the Ranger back to us, and bring us an AWD focus while you're at it!!

This is a huge mistake. Many people simply can't afford an F150.
I'll bet this is why GM decided against ending Colorado/Canyon production. Ford is going to regret doing this. |

We can't get the new Ranger here in the U.S., but our government has bought hundreds of them for the Afghan army and police. I never got to drive a new Ranger, but I saw them all over the place. My company had Hiluxes. The ANA trucks are brown and the ANP trucks are green.

It is a mistake. The only other economical truck out there is the Tacoma with the 4cyl engine. And for some reason nearly every Tacoma I ever see on the road or on the lot is a V6.
I've read one reason stated is that the world Ranger is too close to the size of the F-150 to really carve its own market. That I might agree with a bit. I also read that I think it was 90% of all truck sales in the U.S. are full size models, making it unprofitable to sell that ranger here. Maybe if there was more choices in small trucks and models that truly got good fuel they could sell more in that class. |

Funny, I'm under the impression that if people actually bought enough Rangers and Crown Vics to justify production they'd keep producing them?
Comparing Asia and India sales to North America is absurd. Gee I wonder how the scooter and 2 stoke street bike sales are over there? I wonder how many 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are sold compared to the U.S.? The Panther (Crown Vic, Town Car and Grand Marq) is one of my favorite platforms of all time and it breaks my heart to see it go. But... I'm more proud of Ford for not dumbing hundreds of millions into UAW owned assembly plants that produce a product nobody wants to buy |
