That ain't nuthin';I owned a 12 second Eclipse and was in a 1/4 mile race with a full on big 'ol Ford diesel turbo dually and I had him easily by the 1/8th mark and then he totally blew past me for a low 12 second run and this was at 5800ft asl. That was one fast truck.

The Dakota and the Colorado/Canyon are also discontinued, so, it appears, Ford wasn't the only company to come to the conclusion that small trucks were no longer viable.

When in our market a ranger costs 20k and a f150 25k, it's hard to sell the ranger

So, who "knows the market" better, Ford or Chevy?

Both have a global mid-size pickup.
Both have a full-size pickup.
Chevy will sell midsize pickup here, Ford will not.

We say Ford won't sell it here because they will lose money on it, or rather, not profit as much as they would by not selling it. So is Chevy going to be "less profitable" by selling this thing?

Ford probably weighed the costs of updating it here against potential sales and realized they wouldn't see black.

Gm of course realized they could see profit.

At this point who knows, we'll need 2012/2013 sales to see who was smart with this.

I got a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd V6 as my daily driver. The truck has 234,000 miles on it and never gives me any problems. I would never think about getting rid of it. It's sad Ford stopped selling them but due to 75% of the sales being commercial sales it was gonna happen sooner or later.

GM seems to think a facelift and the global look will work for them.In the short term this will probably work (and helped by the fact the Ranger is gone),but in the long run they will need to push the politics aside and seriously trim GMC.

Gmc is a little more interesting in Canada. For some reason it outsells Chevy by a little bit in full size trucks an probably other areas.

I've heard some Canadians who erroneously believe GMC stands for "General Motors Canada" which maybe has something to do with the GMC sales. I Prefer GMC to Chevy mainly because it doesn't have the bowtie on it.

The crown vic was the most popular fleet vehicle in the world for many years. If cabs, limousines, police, fire, and city accounts couldn't keep that thing afloat I don't see what's so hard to understand why the Ranger must go
