Brake pad / rotor life ?? (2012)

For those who have early build 2012s, how have your pads and rotors been wearing? Have you had to change fronts / rears? At what mileage? What are your driving conditions? How much did it cost?

Doing research on Premium Maintenance Plan. There is a story I'll tell another time ...

Tim

I have a 2012 SE sedan with 17,700 miles. I just took it in yesterday for an oil change at a Ford dealer and they did the check list (you know to up sell you on something) and they said brakes looked great & did not even take measurements. There are no noises or pulsations. I drive about 75% highway.

Just a comment: resurfacing rotors is a giant scam. Nothing needs to be done to rotors when you put on new pads. Changing pads take ten minutes (from car on lift to off), and is one of the biggest rip offs to the customer moneywise in the service environment.
The only time you might want new rotors is once they are below the service thickness.. And that is like 100,000 miles or more with a lot of city driving..
And even then just the front are fine, if the rear are still intact, forget them.

I rant about brakes because for no other item are women taken advantage of as much, in car repair.
The vast majority of shops use scare tactics to sell brake services no one needs.

That's not really true...do you drive in real cities? Ask cabbies how often their brakes NEED to be done, regardless of how often they actually fix them. Warping or grooves from worn pads usually kill the rotors from the inside out.

My last set of front rotors lasted about 40K miles, mostly city. They had life, but weren't worth keeping. The backs were still fine at 70K though.

I have 28,700 miles on my car and the brakes are holding up just fine and that's with a 4 day trip to run the Dragon several times along with other mountain shenanigans. I'm not sure if the maintenance plan covers brakes or not.

Not true you are not want to stick new pads on rotors like this are you

most dealers machine rotors, but it is mostly up to the tech that is work on your car. we write it up to save our own ass. Because when a car comes back who do you think ends up paying for the bill? we do.so when you come back we say sorry sir you denied this and that. now it is too late, that is your own fault we tried to warn you. As people these days are sue happy these days
