Unhappy My Ford Touch won't let me touch

The whole touch screen is dead; black screen; nothing came on when the car starts. I took it to the dealer and they say they will have to replace the whole unit. I have no radio, no phone, no navigation. It will take 3 to 4 days to get the unit. The car has only 20,000 on it. I probably should look at getting extended warranty with this car. http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/i...cons/icon9.gif

Is this not the same unit as the edge and such use? Why are we not having issues in those cars? My mom's edge is perfect...

Same system different hardware. Like running windows on two machines, same idea.

Have you driven again since this happened? My screen blanked out on me once for an entire drive and then came back up the next time I got in the car.

Sucks though :/

this concern can most likely be resolved by resetting the apim. I haven't seen this to much in the focus if at all but the concern is being caused by a dead apim. This can be done by pulling the apim fuse and waiting about 15 minutes or disconnecting both battery terminals and use a wrench of screw driver to jump the two terminals together, this will cause and voltage that is being held in the system to discharge strait to ground. What devices do you have paired to the vehicle?

Depending on your build date, you may already have an extension for the warranty on the APIM. If ETIS shows that you have Field Service Action 12M01 outstanding on your car, this is an extension to the warranty on the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM).

However, I've haven't heard a definitive time period from Ford for the extension. One source says one year, another says two, so it might not be a bad idea to consider an extended warranty.

It was extended by 12 months, so for a ford that's 4 yrs/ unlimited miles, and 5 years unlimited miles for a Lincoln after the performance update/ v3.0.x version of the software, at least for those cars built with prior versions of the software, I'm not sure the extension applies to those cars already built with version 3.0.x

Did ford release an MC Hammer edition of MFT? maybe that's why you can't touch it...

While you're going through the process see if you can get the module part # for the MFT module. If you have the navigation version of MFT it should have "18806" somewhere in the #. It might be on your receipt, but if not any chance you could ask specifically what it is?

It would help the rest of us actually purchase the module from Ford to get a navigation replacement.
