so i just got a set of tires and was having them put on by the shop i work at while i went to class for a cple hrs. got a call from my boss saying there was a problem with the tire size and width of my rim. i have 17x7 and was getting a 215/45/17 tire put on so i didnt see the prob. had to end up taking the rims and tires to a firestone down the st because we didnt have the correct tire mounting machine and after my mech got one bead on they couldnt get the second on because they didnt realize it was a reverse mount rim. so it took firestone a good 25 minutes to take the tire off that my mech tried installing which led to them scratching my lip on that wheel. they felt bad they did it but said there was nothing they could of done because my mech screwed up so they didnt charge me. so now i have a couple scratched on the face of my lip and on one of the spokes. so i am now trying to figure out what color lip and spoke i want to paint them. i did a few ps so tell me what you think i should go through and do.
red
orange
bronze
black
i think the more and more i look at them i like the black because it is a meaner look and i feel that a lot of colors are hard to match with my car unless it was colormatched
That sucks man, i put my own tires on mounted and balanced and had no problem with the same size, definitley do bronze or black besides gold all other colors are ugly
ya i think thats the only one i would of considered doing but it does suck having a color that doesnt match anything other then the basics, but i also like having a color that not many people on this forum have.
im still considering the color matched lip and spoke to my car but i dont wanna go and spend 150+ on paint, clear and all the mixers needed. i hate being a broke college kid
your shop probably doesnt have a machine for low profile tires, thats probably what the issue was. as for colors, i dont like the bright ones...they just to mesh with the rest of the car. i like the black the best.
it wasnt so much because they couldnt mount the lower profile tire because its a body shop and i have seen them do a lot lower profiled tires because there are a bunch of cars out there that come stock with a 45 series tire like the most recent was a scion tc which has the same size as mine. it was because the normal rim gets a tire mounted with the face of the rim facing up and mine needs to get them mounted face down and their is two diff styles of tire mounting machines which the one i needed they did not have but they still tried anyway. i think it should of been a sign when they needed both mechanics for like 45 mins to try and get the old tire off the rim. i just hope my boss gives me a bit more of a discount because they got damaged.
ya i tend to ramble like that when i dont need to worry about getting a grade lol. the shop that did it wasnt the shop i would make pay for it cus they solved a problem that the shop i work at created. so i would just ask my boss to waive the charges on them for just balancing my wheels cus that all they really did. biggest issue would be i would need to get them all redone because first off idk the exact color code and second is it has a metallic in it and a flake added to it too. if anything i would have them spot me for the paint i would need to go buy to do this lil project of mine
so this morn at the end of my shift i gave my wheels a good cleaning cus they were dirty from my mech grabbing them and from spraying a crap ton of break away on the one he failed doing. well the day i got them done i tried just whipping the rim off with a rag and not everything came off and after scrubbing at them today come to realize the break away actually stained the powder coating so it is permanently dirty with light spots here and there. going to ask the head detailer to see if he can figure something out and if not off to my boss to see how i can get them clean whether i get them all repowdercoated or repainted.
so a lil update on this situation, i talked to my boss about the whole ordeal and looks like im going to be getting my wheels painted unless i can find a powder coating place for real cheap. but my boss will be paying for what ever kind of paint i want so im probs going to paint em black or like a dark charcoal. they will have a matte finish to them cus i feel like they will look better rather then be shiny
