Actually it's my daughters. She has about 400 miles on it. The dash display reads that she is getting ave 23.1 mpg and that is mostly highway driving. It's a 2012 SE.
That is not what I expected!! Does it get better after break in?
She loves the car and it runs great. She is a very conservative driver.
Thanks

1st ask your daughter if she had a lead foot (accelerates to speed limit as quickly as possible) Next fill up, reset the fuel avg. if it still reads that way... Take to dealership!

No she does not. As I said she is very conservative. I'll try the reset.

Thanks

I'd give the car a little while before you get too crazy about mpg numbers. Also is she only driving city? Depending on the amount of time spent sitting and idling, that can make a huge difference.

He said she drives mostly highway. Give the motor a little while to break in before judging the mpg too harshly.

My 2011 SEL averages about 29mpg all the time - gets up into the mid 30's on the highway. I drive it back and forth to work - about 25 miles each way - so it gets completely warmed up every time it runs. Does your daughter drive short runs? If so, the fuel injection runs rich until the engine warms up, which will kill gas mileage if it never gets warmed up. Just a thought. VERY pleased with my '012. Wig

My new 2012 SE has an EPA rating of 28/38 but it's still sitting at 31.2 after 2 weeks, doing a lot of city driving I usually don't do in my old car.

I've had my SE sport 5M for about a month, and took a 700 mile trip last week, all highway driving. It was through the Idaho mountains and I didn't spare the ponies during the twisties or climbs, and still ended up with an average 40 mpg.

I'm at altitude (about 5-5500 feet) and average 29-30.5mpg all the time. I've got mixed city/highway with my 13 mile (each way) commute on semi highway-like roads. I'm on my second tank of mid grade and my average has jumped to 31. I'd give it some time to break-in.

FYI... Just turned over 3700 miles this morning.
