Cool Seriously considering $4300 audio system

I got a quote from East Hamilton Radio today.

Parts:
Metra dash kit
Kenwood DNX6990
Hertz speakers, sub, and amp

$4300 installed including tax and environment fee.

Is this good?

Anything I should be aware of?

Depends what the speakers, sub and amp are, as in model. I've never had any experience with Hertz. Is that head unit something you picked out or something they said you "need"? Does that price include wires/cables?

Also, are you afraid to install it yourself? I'm betting a large portion of that price is installation.

Also, compare what they're charging for the actual items vs. places online. If you can't/don't want to install it yourself, you could probably get everything for cheaper elsewhere and let them install it. That way you're getting a good price on the products and still supporting your local audio store by letting them install it.

I picked out the HU.
All wire and so on is included.
$320 for the install. I like the guys at EHR so I'm fine with that.

I would lose the 2 year warranty on the HU if I got it online.

Not sure about the cost of the speakers online, or warranty. Will look into that.

If you got it from an authorized dealer, you would not lose the warranty. There are plenty of those online, even on eBay. I am a warranty hound myself, so I would not steer you wrong on that. In the end the choice is yours, I'm just throwing out my opinion based on how I shop. Yes, you lose the convenience of being able to take a blown head unit up the road and get a new one right away. But you save money, plus, its Kenwood. It's solid.

You may even be able to talk your store down on price if you find it cheaper elsewhere.

Again, just my opinion. I'm still curious what speakers, amp and sub you're installing.

That looks like a very nice setup. I definitely say do it, regardless of how you choose to acquire the gear. Gotta love that one amp can do all that, and do it well.

Maybe one suggestion, though, if you're going to build a system like that. Dynamat.

EHR does use a baffle behind the speakers. Not sure if it's Dynamat.

My brother got a cheaper Kenwood HU and Hertz speakers installed at EHR. He is very happy with it. I heard it today and it sounds awesome!

I'm gonna do it unless someone chimes in with a very good reason why I shouldn't!

It is. Maybe not "nasty" in your definition, as in 15x more bass than anything else. The specs are pretty awesome. Reviews on said amp are very positive too, which is pretty incredible for an amp that is powering everything in one chassis.

As I said, I have no experience with the brand. If it were me it would be MB Quart or Polk, but that's because I have experience with them. Honestly, I say do the system, but again, if you can get a deal, get a deal. You work hard for your money (I'm assuming), there's nothing wrong with making every dollar count.
