Lightweight Flywheel

I've just started to fool around with my 5 speed focus, and it seems like changing out the flywheel would give the engine a lot better response. The car is pretty much impossible to stall, but it holds revs for ages and winds up slow. Has anyone replaced the flywheel (or taken apart the clutch at all)? I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on it so I was wondered if anyone's done this, or if there are companies out there making them. Thanks for the advice.

I'd be willing to bet you could put on a lightweight flywheel for a 2.0 Duratec from a 2nd gen focus. But then again that's an expensive, time consuming bet if it doesn't fit.

Holding on to revs between shifts is not only a factor of the heavy dual-mass flywheel in the Focus--it is also a factor of the ECU programming. I don't doubt that a lightened flywheel would improve the climb through the RPMs, though.

Now.. my question.. is the ST Flywheel significantly lighter? And since the engines are extremely similar, wouldn't it fit?

I guess that throws my idea out the window. Anyone know how much a stock flywheel weighs anyways? I'm planning on going through the ECU and maybefind a way to implicate a ESC "Sport" mode from the ST, and try and get rid of thelingering revs, but I want to know if I should be looking into a lighter flywheel, or if it's already under ~15 lbs.

All manual MK3 Focus models use a dual mass flywheel, so chances are they aren't going to have the lightest flywheels around. This is for drivability and durability's sake based on decisions made by the manufacturer.

I'm not aware of any aftermarket light weight or single mass flywheels being available for the MTX-75 in the standard Focus, or the MMT6 in the ST. Doesn't mean no one is working on it though.
