02 Se no start after ecm removal installation same

Hello FF community
I tried looking but can't seem to find an answer.

I removed the ecm and installed a new one, I tried to start the car and no dice(as expected). so I decided to place the old one in and what does it happens. well no start either. I tried resetting the ecm by unplugging the batt 5 mins an still no go.

I am at ends world, can someone tell me if all I need is a visit to the dealer to get raped or what can I do.

any help is greatly appreciated

all good it happened after removing the old one and installing a new one , then whe I put back the old one(good) the car will not start.

IDK if it has something to do with the p.a.t.s which I suspect.

can the ecm erase itself after removal?

AFAIK the car should had started right away but it sounds liken the anti theft is activated. I can hear the fuel pump priming but that is it. not even a crank.

If the frequency of the key does not match what the ECU is looking for, the car will not start. So the key and ECU have to follow each other or you'll have to have the dealership reprogram the ECU with your PATS frequency.

you can swap out the key and ignition cylinder
just have to have a copy of your original key to open the doors

I had a Lock smith cut a key and redo my PATS for $30 a key off Craigslist..

Since you need just the PATS reprogrammed maybe you can get just as lucky

everything is the same as before(car running)
the only thing different is that I pulled the ecu and put it back up. same parts same everything.
all i can think of is that the ecu got either erased when I removed it or something with the security being activated.
I dont have a beeper so IDK how to reset the ecm other than leaving the batt unplugged for a while, which btw did nothing got fix the problem

you cannot simply throw a pcm in the car it has to be programed to the car. or the pats system will not let you start the car. what led you to replace the pcm in the first place??.

unsure if the PCM would get Borked if you swapped the new PCM back tot he old one, but now you have a issue that may not be a simple repair in my eyes, may require a PATS computer to reprogram. can you get the Key and PATS from the car you got the ECU from?

I just remembered something important to this problem( I think).

this is where I stand
1. I am using original vehicle's ECM( nothing wrong with it).
2. The IGN switch was replaced a few month ago.

what I did
removed the original ECM from plug,
tried another ECM
removed new ECM
RE installed original ECM and now the car will not start.

I suspect that the ecm went way back to reset and now it doesn't recognizes the later ign switch. can that happen?

I would think that the new reprogrammed ECm(new I.S) should be part of reset sequence.

I would hate to recode the ecm for the new key again. $95

thanks for the help
