Front Passenger Side Rattle + Interior Lights Problem

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any of the same issues because the Service Department can't seem to figure it out. I have a 2012 Focus SE.

First of all, I have a problem with a loud rattle coming from the passenger airbag area when I first start driving the car in the morning. This normally only happens when it's below 0 celsius outside, and lasts until the car gets warmed up. I have taken everything out of the glove box compartment, but the issue still persists. Here's a video of what I'm talking about:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rw8hklhf9a...%2025%20AM.mov

The second issue I'm having is with the interior lighting. I've tried to bring the issue up a few times with the dealer but nothing has been done. The issue is that when I unlock the car with the remote, the interior lights do not turn on, all that turns on are the lights in the foot well. This issue is intermittent, but happens on a daily basis. The dealer "calibrated" the lights, but the problem persists. Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Any help is appreciated!

I have the same rattle in the dash. About once a month it's on the driver side, but it's on the passenger side all the time and noticeable if the temps are below 70 degrees. The stereo can be off and the rattle noise is still there. It's really annoying, but I remember having an older car with the same issue and once the dealer went inside my dash more rattles appeared so I'm living with this one until it becomes too loud and a distraction. I hope someone has an easy solution.

Hi tdotfocus12,

If you haven't already, I recommend reaching out to my colleagues at Ford Canada. They'll be in the best position to assist. Give them a call at 1-800-565-3673.

Hi 84Camaro_L69 and a1awind,

I'm happy to do what I can to assist. Send me some information (VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name) and I'll look into some options to help.

Crystal

Thanks for all the replies. I've tried touching various components but it doesn't seem to silence the rattle. I'll try and contact Ford about this and see if there's any info they have there I guess. Hopefully I can get it fixed soon.

With regards to the light, I went back to the dealer once again today for the 3rd or 4th time now and this time they contacted the engineering department and are going to order a part (Forgot the name, I'll post it later) and see if that works. I'll post an update as soon as that's done, I'm really hoping it finally resolves the problem.

I've developed the same problem within the last week or so, when it gets below freezing, as you've indicated. I'm hesitant to remove the dash and create more rattles, so I'm letting it be for now.

Yeah I'm a bit concerned about that as well, but its really bothering me so I'm going to see what happens. I wouldn't be concerned as much if it was just a regular vibration but this is pretty loud.

I didn't have a dash rattle, but I had a loud rattle from the passenger door on my SE, as well as the same light issue you're having. My dads SE has the same light issue as well. Its weird for sure, it seemed like it was totally random when the lights decided they wanted to turn on.

I'm curious about the dome light issue.

Mine seem to be randomly working or not working. It could be that 13 year old boy who lives in the bedroom across the hall from me and eats my food pushing buttons randomly.

I'll certainly never get a straight story from him about it.
