new IMRC (Intake Mantifold Runner Control)

so my check engine light came on in my 2003 SVT Focus and threw the code P1518 which i googled and it said i needed a new IMRC. i was going to go to the junk yard but i didnt know if i could use one off a normal non SVT Focus of the same year? also if not what kind would i need.

IMRC only was on the SVT models, there was no imrc on regular focus.

Some Contours had them and they work in the SVTF, I'm not sure which Contours had them. There is a recent thread about someone that pulled one out of a Contour and used it.

You can also try to repair yours if you can solder, I fixed mine and I had the same code.

other than your gas mileage, no.

like they said, there is a contour that used one, or new from toulsey ford.

also, if your wiring and soldering skills are good, there are some how to's on fixing it.

well soldering skills are less likely here, since in most cases it's destroyed plastic gears, or if one is lucky it may be a one contact that has to be cleaned.

The gears are metal, those are the last things to worry about.

The culprits usually are a corroded contact that needs to be cleaned and/or two solder joints that become fatigued from mechanical movement of the motor inside. The hard part is de-soldering the power pins, and doing the reverse when done.
