Sway bars?

So my mechanic informed me to pass inspection I would need to throw new front and rear sway bars on my zx5. So he offers to do both for $140. My question is should I just upgrade at this point and throw down for something a bit better? I was looking at Steedas stuff but are there any better brands?

whats wrong with your current sway bars and how would that cause you to fail inspection. i have never seen one go bad....... question your mechanic.
end links, however, need freqent replacement. its an easy job, about 2 (out of 10) on the do-it-yourself home mechanic scale. and only costs about $40.

I'm a moron. Its one of the end links gone bad. He didn't clarify it over the phone. But yeah to replace both would be $140.

That's actually a fair price for a shop to do both sides in front, but as thenorm mentioned, parts are cheap & it's a fairly easy job if you've got the tools or a helpful friend.

Autozone ones have held up fine for me (greaseable & warrantied) I needed some cheap & quick when one broke, so I didn't wait for better ones....

Luck!

Moog's are also a good replacement, Amazon sells them for a $21.30 each (they are grease-able too!) The Steeda's are great, look great but unless your car is much lower, you will probably not notice a benefit in getting them.

You could buy the links ($43,) hydraulic jack($40,) pair of jack stands($22,) wheel chocks($10) and still come in under your $140 quote (should be able to even buy the tools if you dont have them.) First, time doing it yourself, it would take about an hour. Check out the link pyroinsa posted above!

Wow this is all fantastic information! I'm going to give it a shot soon. If I feel I'm in over my head I'll buy the links and see if I can get a buddy of mine to show me how to install them. Thanks guys!
