Check the clutch?
Honestly, I am going to be selling the car soon (3-6 months soon), but in the mean time, every time I let the clutch out in neutral and at a stand still, it sounds like a slight knock. But when I push on the pedal, it dissappears. I can't tell if it is coming from the clucth, or the engine, and it worries me too. I know that it is about time for the clutch to be replaced (If I am going to replace it, I am getting rid of the dual mass flywheel.) as it seems to be slipping upon slight pressure. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? I have had a few say the throwout bearing, just wanting some more opinions.

I hope I don't jynx myself, but the Focus is the first manual car we've ever had that made it past 25k without killing the throwout bearing. And I have a ton of city miles on it ...

At Lites leave in neutral w/ the clutch out.

Its probably not the throwout bearing. Bearings make the most noise when loaded and when the clutch pedal is not depressed, the throwout bearing shouldn't be loaded at all. Im banking more on an input shaft bearing. Push in the clutch, noise goes away because the input shaft stops spinning.
This said, my ST also made this exact noise. Never really bothered me enough to fix anything. |
