Weirdest car sound I have ever heard...

So...

Firstly, it may be advisable to know, my 2012 has been parked for 5 weeks due to me being terribly broke. Storage insurance, and payments...that was it for about a month and a half. I had turned it over a couple times.

I can afford to put it on the road again now, and I approached my car and pressed the unlock button on the fob, and the sound that came from my car....I don't know if I will be able to explain.

Again, note, I have not even touched the car yet. This sound was almost a grinding sound, but not like metal on metal. It was a really low, rumbling, throaty sound, for lack of a better explanation. I thought it was the power lock mechanisms trying to engage and disengage over and over....but sounded nothing like it normally would when locking or unlocking the car. It went on for over twenty seconds straight.

My friend was with me, he is not a car guy, at all, but even he looked terribly alarmed. I am not even kidding here, we both ducked around the corner, worried something would explode, or fly off the car.

I can't put in words what this sound was, but I have NEVER heard a car make any sound, even remotely close to this.

I am VERY puzzled, and really want to know if anybody else who reads this will have one of those "I HEARD THIS!! I KNOW WHAT IT IS" moments.

Anybody?

:)

I know this won't help you, but I haven't the slightest clue what would cause that. I don't think seized lock motors would make a sound like that. Perhaps, next time you visit your car, record it with a video in case it does it again?

If it does happen again, I will. Every time I unlock it for the next little while, I will be ready to record.

I recall a few threads of this sort around the initial release of the 2012.

the speakers for some reason emit a very loud, deep, unsettling tone. I believe it was software related but I suspect it has to do with lower system voltage. all a guess but I recall this issue.

That makes a ton of sense actually, thinking back to where the sound seems to be coming from. I also have the upgraded sound system.

Hmmm.....

hmm I think the other guys had the upgraded sound system as well. haven't heard of it for awhile.

yours is an early model isn't it? if you haven't been driving it I wonder if there's an update for you. MFT or no?

This is a known MFT issue with tons of threads about it. It's too random/infrequent for Ford to actually diagnose/do anything about it. I had this happen on mine a couple of weeks after I bought it. People came out of their houses to see what was happening. There's a few videos from people on here on youtube, but I can't look them up at the moment since I am at work.

Don't tell me you're going to be starring in Steven Spielberg's next Poltergeist movie! Seriously though, take it to your dealer to see if they can cast some spells on it. Please call our Canadian Customer Relationship Centre at 800-565-3673 for further assistance.

Thanks for being on this awesome investigation team! Did you visit the dealer for the most recent MFT update, forceflow2?
