Howdy y'all. New Focus owner here.

First new car in 18 years. First American car in 18 years. Last was a 1995 Mercury Mystique LS, basically a Contour SE in Mercury clothing. Since then it's been an Infiniti and three BMWs, all bought used.

My 2002 325i, at 120k miles, was getting awfully expensive to maintain. I was averaging about $300/month over the last two years in repairs. For a 10 year old car ...

I wanted sporty, fuel efficient (no premium gas!), a high quality interior, preferred a hatch and really wanted to go American this time. Knowing myself well, a run of the mill transportation appliance like a Civic or Camry would bore me to tears. Nothing GM or Chrysler was remotely interesting. And I wanted to keep the loan below $20k. Hence, the Focus. Only other car really considered was a VW CC. Too cramped. Too expensive and too poor reliability ratings.

So here it is: 2012 Titanium, Sterling Gray, Premium, Cold Weather, Sport, Moonroof, MyFord Touch / Sirius / Nav. Basically, everything but Park Assist and two tone interior.

I'd have taken a stick if they had one but so far the DCT is doing well. Pondered waiting for a Focus ST but 80% of my driving is within 10 miles of home. And this will probably become my daughters car in three years when she turns 16. She does NOT need 252 HP :)

No mods or anything planned. This is a daily driver and only car. Digging it a lot.

Tim

Welcome and congrats! I was in kind of the same boat as you. The last new car I purchased was in 1992 but it was a toyota paseo and it had over 500,000 on it when it died. It lasted 20 years and I hope the Focus can get half of that. Great looking car! Enjoy!

Good stuff. Mods are not for everyone. I'd at least tint the windows.

Welcome to the Forums! Thats a good looking Focus. Like mentioned above, I would at least tint the windows. BMW's are awesome cars but are expensive to maintain. I hope you enjoy your new Focus

Welcome and congrats. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one not doing any mods.

OP here again. Nah, I didn't get the car for 20k. I financed 20k. Sticker was $27,050. Internet price $23,157 posted on their website. Only thing we haggled over was whether that price included the $795 delivery/destination fee. In the end they upped the trade value of my BMW by $800 so it was a wash.

I also got the 6 year/75k mile maintenance package. In fact the only things offered to me in the finance office were extended warranty and the maint plan, both Ford. No aftermarket junk and no sealants, undercoatings, gold trim, fabric protector crap.

I must say, the entire new car buying process has changed an awful lot. My girlfriend bought a new Odyssey last December and it was an easy transaction too.
