They admitted to their mistake...but there's no real "monetary" value to the mistake. I didn't actually *pay* for the navigation. They tricked me into believing I had it when I bought the car, but the only navigation I received was the Sync navigation which is horrific.
Well if they said you could upgrade to nav after the fact, then hold them to that. You pay for the list price for the SD card and they swap out the head unit to one that is nav ready.

I've tried that one. The response was a simple "We were wrong". I called Ford customer support a few times and they basically just said "We're sorry to hear about your experience".

The thing is, the way Ford is responding to *all* of these problems (from the MFT system to the DCT) makes it seem they're only feigning the customer care to improve ratings with magazines. It took them over a year and change to "redesign" the MFT system...to make it look about the same (slightly worse) and be just as unstable (I can list all of the problems I have with it, if you'd like).

I know a single developer at my company that could design an entirely new system in a matter of weeks that would perform better than the entirety of the MFT system in its current state. Over the past year he developed an application that interfaces with our software suite that is now used by over 8,000,000 people daily. Over the past 2 months that it's been released to the public we've received a *TOTAL* of 19 software change requests for it...and 6 were enhancement requests (meaning, asking us to do things it could never do but would make their processes easier). Yes, a lot of that is because we actually put money into the QA of our products, but that should just be *another* strike against Ford.

It's just gotten to the point that the system is a damned embarrassment when people get into my car. At least half the time it seems "hung" for the first 20-30 seconds in the car, and then it usually ends up playing a random song on my USB stick. That and the laughable SYNC Navigation mean the system is about as useful as a 10 year old smartphone.

It's just a "Services" quadrant. Utterly useless, really. It has a bigger version of the compass in it and a calendar that doesn't sync to anything...so it's just an empty calendar.

It's an obvious and intentional oversight because they want people to buy the nav when they get the car.

Given that level of dishonesty I'd say it would be good to name the dealer and sales person involved so that other potential Ford shoppers don't make the mistake of dealing with them.

Yes that is very wrong. I test drove a SEL that had a backup camera, but no nav. Told the sales guy we wanted nav and he talked is into an upgrade to a Ti. He said it had all the same features as the SEL had and more. He named a great price and we agreed on it. The car was delivered to the dealership the nest week and I picked up.

Driving away I noticed no back up camera came on and when I got home I went through the options to see if it was turned off. Turns out no camera, jus reverse sensors. Rang up my sales guy and asked about it. He said he will get back to me. Speaking with his manager he called back and said they are ordering the module and will install it free of charge when it gets in.

They have earned my future business when the wife upgrades her 2005 Escape in a year or two.

Your gonna be waiting a looong time. Ford has made it perfectly clear the an OEM camera can not be added after the fact. Many members on here have dug into this (myself included) and have come to the consensus that if your car doesn't have a camera, you either get used to it, or trade it in for a car that has one. The manager and salesman basically lied to you.

Hmmmm, my dealer told me a could add a BU camera after the fact through them too, since the Ti I picked up Aug 1st also didn't come with one... it was the last 2012 5MT Ti left in Ontario!

My dealer told me the same lie. The only way you can add a camera after the fact is go aftermarket and it won't show up on the MFT screen, only OEM does that.

Ford basically insisted that the camera is integrated into the rear park assist and that is why they were bundled together. We now know that is a flat out lie, all 2013 focus Ti's get a rear cam standard, with or w/o park assist. It's only a matter of time before ford finally releases a retrofit kit to add the OEM camera to any FoFo with the MFT. I fully expect it to be some where north of 5 bills when they do release it.

We've crapped on the OP's thread long enough, so back on topic.

No no it's fine. I guess we could broaden the scope of the topic to include *any* technologies that can be added after-the-fact. Ford has put a pretty tight reign on adding in OEM parts, but there has to be a way to fix the problems that the dealerships have caused by simply being completely unaware or nefarious.

Also, it seems to be a pretty big trend: People have missed out on features and comforts, and Ford has lost on profit, because they didn't spend enough time educating their salesmen. I'd like to say "Maybe next time they'll think ahead", but that doesn't seem likely.

My salesman knew quite a lot about the system and was able to tell me what could and couldn't be ordered/added. And I'm a long way from Ford in MI. I think a lot of the training is up to the dealership and even the salesmen themselves.

That said, all these cars are wired the same, so adding in the back up cam or nav should be as simple as a plug in and then a reflash of the software. The way I see it the way it's coded, it will use the feature if it finds it, for instance, I don't have a back up cam but it occasionally gives me the "no backup camera installed" BS on my MFT screen... I imagine if I had a camera, putting it in reverse would trip the system to show me the camera because it's installed.

I feel like this would be the same with nav.
