Its not harmful per say in terms of destroying your paint, But it is more aggressive a soap than others, so it will go through wax faster. If you use it primarily, and never wax, then yes it can eventually damage your paint.

if you are planning to give your car a fresh waxing, then using dish soap to wash the car to get the old wax off isnt a bad idea then.

I've never had good luck using dish soap to strip wax. For whatever reason my wax always remains after the dish soap wash.
A better way to remove old wax would be to do a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol to water wipedown. |

Why use it when there are products for that very purpose and are 100% harmless to your paint.

is your exterior oily/greasy? then yes, use it. there are pretty good exterior wash-n-wax blends out there for pretty cheap.
