It depends, are you lowering the car? stiffer struts and shocks are better for performance, but are less comfortable. if you are lowering the car, I'd only recommend performance dampers, not oem.

not much stiffer, the big thing is that I believe they can be valved to be paired with your ride height, which is why oem are bad for lowered cars... no adjustment.

koni yellow's have adjustable stiffness, so they can be MEGA stiff if you want them to be.

I 2nd that ^^^^^^. If your lowering your car for a little more, I'd go w/ the Koni yellows= adjustable dampers & will work w/ any lowering springs.

i'm running oranges on saleen 2 inch drop springs. and i really dig the ride. its low and agressive but it doesnt kill my back. the spring rate will dictate harshness more than the dampers. i was on a koni sport kit (linear rate springs of unknown stiffness) and the yellow dampers. even on the softest damper setting it could be brutal on a rough road. pick your springs carefully.

put about 220 miles on the suspension on a round trip to milwaukee and back. and it was almost butter smooth! it gets a little jiggly over absolutely bad pavement. but i cant complain. heck my back doesn't even hurt. i highly recommend finding the saleen springs for an 00-05 focus and getting the oranges. i only scrape on super steep driveways. and can get around most anywhere.
