Removing DCT shift knob assembly, has it been done?

I'm looking to remove my shift knob in order to replace the shift boot and trim in my SEL with the flat black trim from the ST. Not worried about losing the PRNDS piece because it's staring me in the face in the gauge cluster display.

I'd rather use the ST piece than attempt to paint match the flat black plastic with paint.

I haven't looked to closely at the assembly under the boot, I will be tomorrow when I replace the rest of the trim pieces with the ST pieces, and may know more myself then, just wanted to know if this has been done before.

Thanks a ton Ben! I had done a search and hadn't come up with anything. Looks like it'll be a lot easier than I was anticipating.
