My OEM splash guards should be waiting for me at home, but how many of you have put vinyl behind them to protect the paint? How important is this? Does it seem like water can get behind the guard and eventually cause rust? or is it a pretty tight seal with the OEM ones?

A paint film behind the guards is a good idea no matter how well they fit.

The reason I am asking is because I went to 2 vinyl places and they do not carry clear vinyl. I was able to get a small piece of a blue/grey vinyl which does not match at all...but since it won't be seen I may use it anyway. I just hope I can trim it to where it cannot be seen.

A lot of folks have gone with some after-market ones. Since my car was only a couple of weeks old, I went with the OEM ones from Ford. They look like they came on the car and are backed by the dealer.

I tried a set of the eBay ones--they didn't fit worth a crap, so I ponied-up for a set of OE ones from Tousley. Way mo' betta! I used some Lamin-X that I had leftover from another project to protect the paint behind them. The OE ones are so much nicer than the cheap ones.
