Rasberry Pi on MyFord Touch

Just for kicks I hooked up a Raspberry Pi to MFT in my Focus to see how it looked on the LCD. For those of you not familiar with RPi, it's a complete computer based on the Broadcom BCM2835 SoC about the size of a credit card and sells for $35 (model B).

RPi currently runs a Debian based Linux called Raspian BUT, and here's the really cool part, a port of Android ICS is in the works and should be available in a month or two!

Here's some photos and as you look through them and consider the possibilities of an RPi with an Arduino or two hanging off of it you might start to get the same ideas I have.

Oh yeah, I know, I need to clean the screen...someday LOL!

Here's the Raspian log in screen:

And here's the desktop:

Might as well try a couple of games, here's Flippy a Reversi clone:

Another game called Slide Puzzle:

Here's what happens when you take the vehicle out of park

For some weird reason MFT requires that there be no SD cards or USB drives plugged in while A/V is active. I can understand why Ford would want the car to be in park for safety reasons, but requiring that the SD and USB slots be un-populated makes no sense.

However, it would be nice to have working video while the car is out of park for a number of reasons, and I am pretty sure a schematic diagram would prove useful in finding the signal that tells MFT the car is out of park. I'll save that for later though since it's not critical at the moment.

I have Samba configured as well as a web server and WiFi adapter, and plan on getting a bluetooth module attached at some point, so this should be a fun project. I'll keep this thread updated if there's enough interest otherwise I'll move it to the RPi forums.

Definitely interested in your progress - no MFT for me in Aus - but still the inner nerd is intrigued

so does it hook up to the mft interface as a display or what... not sure how it works.

I do ask because if they had a double din kind of thing or something... I'd like this in that setup

I'm a little jealous. I still have about 8 more weeks to wait for mine. Hopefully the ICS port will be ready by then.

I'm assuming so. Doubtful there's any kind of touchscreen integration most likely just a video signal being sent to use as a monitor.

What do you use for a mouse? Can you use the touch screen for the mouse?

It's not as simple as modifying a hardware signal (i.e. a schematic wouldn't help).

The APIM "knows" that the transmission is not in Park by virtue of its connection to the HS-CAN bus.

I've been looking into doing something very similar. How are you powering your RPi? 12v out? I dont have MFT (06 focus) but I am very interested in this project.
