No I didn't change out the head I question weather the previous owner did or not though. I had always planned to just haven't yet.

regular oil changes, look under the hood for issues frequently, drive it hard & give 'er the good stuff (oil, fuel, filters, seafoam, ect)

here is some progress on the project.....

finally got the old motor out, I am leaving the tranny in. Looks like I will have to put the block in by itself then set the head, and reassemble in the car.....not enough room in the engine bay to completely reassemble the long block and drop it in.

anyway here are some damage photos....the #4 rod is broken, that piston doesn't move anymore, note on the head pictures you can see where the chunks of valve seat blew all the way through the coolant galley on the side, also you can see where the valve seat is missing.

Keep in mind this engine was running smooth and quiet one second, turned it off, then it wouldn't restart....can't imagine the destruction if it ran for awhile like this....

here we go with some reassembly.....got a junkyard motor, still in one piece, supposedly had only 56K on it. Bought a reman head with corrected seats, new water pump, new timing belt, new head bolts, lot's of scrubbing and sanding, some spray paint, some krinkle paint for the valve cover......looks like I will be dropping it back in week after next, still tracking down some heater hoses and a few other misc items...... just taking my time and making sure everything goes back in smoothly......

here are some new pics.....

the way to keep a car running that long in my opinion has always been simply dont beat the hell out of it and do regular oil changes, especially if your tight on money
