2002 Ford Focus ZX5 Hanging Idle

Hello all,

I have been trying to fix a Idle issue. I have read several threads about rough Idle and Idling Low RPM making the car shake and Hanging Idles. I Had / Have all these issues.
First I replaced all three motor mounts. This helped a little bit with the shaking motor issue and yes the motor mount on the passenger side was bad and needed to be replaced.
I replaced the Plugs and wires
The rough Idle continued. I cleaned out the TB I am sure it did some good but it did not resolve the issue.
I replaced the IAC, Idle speed control; PCV Hose from the intake to the PCV valve all three parts.
When the car is started the RPM jumps to about 1500 and hangs there then settles down. When you rev the motor it will hang around 2500 then slowly make its way down to normal idle.
When driving the car and you get to a stop the motor will rev to 2000 or so and slowly return to idle.

I am out of ideas; I have read so many threads here and have thrown so many parts at this problem.

Any Ideas?

Just ideas; Cruise control fitted? Check cable for snags, lubrication. Check throttle cable for snags and smooth operation. Check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It may be worn or faulty.
Car should idle high briefly (about 1200-1500 rpm) when first started from cold. Once temp gauge moves normal idle should be 750 - 800 rpm.

I already replaced the TPS but I will check the cruise control and throttle cable. What do I use for lube on the cables?

I'd use any lightweight oil. If it improves the idle situation, I'd consider replacing the entire cable since the innards are likely worn.

I too have similar problems. Although, sometimes when in neutral and revved, my RPM does not hang.

I read around here that possibly it's an electrical problem. I just read it today so I haven't tried it on my ZX3 yet. The reason why the rpm hangs is because the ECU is trying to compensate for low charge to your battery. It's trying to give the battery a little more juice before the rpm goes down to normal.
