I was also going to mention... the existing Forte has similar taillights, the Hyundai line has had similar taillights for 2-3 years now (the Elantra and Sonata are prime examples) etc. etc. etc.

So the Focus took some ideas from other manufacturers that seemed to work well, and we got a car that's not quite as complicated looking as some of the imports like Hyundais and the new Mazda lineup, but employs some of the same design language, in my opinion the Focus is the best looking of the current compact lineup, because it mixes some neat design elements with simple body shapes and lines. It's a good mix of simplicity and flair.

As you can plainly see, they look very similar. Automobile manufactors have been "copying" each others vehicles for years.
Well that's getting a little too general though. There's only so much you can do to differentiate the body of a car with the same number and placement of doors, wheels, etc. and roughly the same dimensions as ten other cars in the class.

I was talking strictly about individual design elements such as the taillights, specifically their shape, proportions, dimensions, etc. There's definitely more that Ford, Kia, and Nissan could've done to keep their three cars' taillights from looking so similar.

As far as quality, once the auto companies started to take it seriously U.S. built cars have been as good or better than cars built anywhere else.
I took a 17.5 % paycut and was laid off for 9 years for my company to stay out of bankruptcy....... They still went bankrupt, and then gave the ceo 50 mil bonus for getting the labor to sign away their money and benefits. Boooo it sucks when the labor has to pay for the mistakes management makes

What year did the Sentra have those rear lights? The Gen III Focus has been released in Europe as of 2010 (mid year I think). That means the Focus rear was solidified about 2008 around Christmastime. It would be interesting to see how the design timing lines up.

Yes, I completely understood what you were intending. But I am just saying that copying vehicles has gone on for years and is nothing new.
