Porting a cylinder head??

I'm looking at having my Cylinder head rebuilt to AERA Specs with a stronger valve train to avoid any potential damage to my SPI to the common SPI Failure.

My question is, if I have the cylinder head Ported for for flow, would this increase or decrease the fuel mileage (mpg) ??

Glad to see someone sticking with the SPI, and doing something to the head to prevent damage, and add performance to the motor.

I would think MPG would go down just a little, but with a tune, I'm sure they could make it so little or no MPG is loss.

I don't justify buying a whole new motor or transmission to fit my car. I love my SPI, I currently get 375 miles on a tank and have never had a problem with it besides suspension/steering issues such as struts, ball joints, etc. that is expected throughout the period of owning a car.

I can purchase a rebuilt head or a new head with stiffer valves for less then 500.00 with the gaskets. The only big problem I've heard with the SPI is the head. I would rather spend that $500. and fix the problem from the start rather then paying 1,000-2,000 for a differn't engine install. I have too much tied up in the SPI anyway to swap. New Air filters, fuel filters, plugs, wires, oxygen sensors, pcv valve, new oil filter, etc. I'll spend $500. prevent the problem then use the money left for something else.
