That's why I don't understand what the big hold up is, unless they are admitting that the hardware is not compatible and they need to re-write the programming to make it work. Which doesn't make sense from a cost perspective in the first place.

To clarify, Gen 1 includes the original SYNC system, Sync with MyFord (4.0 and later currently include AppLink), and SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation. Gen 2 strictly refers to MyFord Touch equipped vehicles.

Awsome, I was not expecting any more updates for that system. Any chance of getting Message Access Protocol (MAP)??

Sync With MyFord was version 3.0x or later, version 4.0.x has applink on the 2013 models but was not made available for the 2012 with the same published hardware specifications. That shouldn't take time to develop again if it was released, unless the hardware is different.

MFT already supports this. Your phone or device has to support the proper bluetooth profile in order for it to work.

I was refering to Gen 1. Ford SYNC available in 2008 supports text messaging on a very select set of phones. MAP was added to later SYNC systems as it became more common among cell-phones. I believe it was introduced in the 2010 MY but I'm not positive.

I can't speculate on what all the update will entail, chaimav, but we're working with Apple to ensure future compatibility with the iPhone.

Ah, my bad. Your phone's bluetooth still needs to support it though. =)
It is surprisingly uncommon even on a lot of newer handsets but it's just software related.
I have a Galaxy S which it didn't work on before and then I rooted it and bumped the rom to the newest Cyanogen mod Jellybean and lo and behold the car started reading texts to me. I was tickled.

It was very hard finding a compatible phone back then, particularly because Verizon specifically blocked their phones from using the protocol which Sync needed. I got lucky that the phone I had worked with it, but it took me about a year to find a replacement that both had a qwerty keyboard and supported it.
