Low revs, chugging, backfires
Hi Everyone
I am the proud owner of a recently purchased 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Climate. All in good condition, well maintained, regular service history from new, one careful previous owner. However, it is showing odd intermittent problems when driving along - the symptoms are as follows: - Happens a few minutes after a cold start - "seems" to disappear after lengthy running (not tested this out properly) - Revs drop below 1,000 and sound as if it will cut out. - Loss of power generally when trying to rev past 2,000 revs - Struggles to get to 30 mph when heading off from traffic lights, etc - Chugs alongs, as if to cut out during the "episode" it is having - Backfires - Engine warning light flashes - On some occasions engine warning light remains on. After a break, getting back into the car for another journey, and all appears normal again (except sometimes, the engine warning light remains on) - but only for a few minutes before it begins again. Does anybody have a similar experience and/or suggestions for what it could be? New to the forum and enjoying the club otherwise! Cheers! |

You need to get the code read but from your symptoms I'd check the plugs and leads and replace the coil.
Try not to drive car......backfiring could permanently damage cat. Another test you could do is start the car and rev it normally (at standstill)....see if it backfires etc. Normally plugs/leads & coil will be more prominent when the engine is under load....eg driving, however, whilst stood still they will behave normally. |
