Will 225/45/17's fit?

Hey guys im in the market for new tires and right now im running 205-40-17's on 17x7.5's. Im wondering if i can upgrade to 225-45-17 or 225-40-17 for a little bit more grip through corners (occasional auto-x). Will there be any clearance issues? I have eibach pro kit with 2/2.2 drop. Im not really too knowledgeable about tire sizes...so any advice/help would be much appreciated. 2003 ZX3

I don't know the exact offset on my rims or the width. But they had 225/45/17s on them and the back was fine but the front would rub on the insides of the front fender when I hit a big bump. Other than that everything else was fine. I ended up just going with some 205/40/17s and seemed to fix everything

yes they will, might rub a little depending on your suspension setup, 225/40 would be a better option for less chance of rubbing.

225-40x17 would be great for your autox indever's. Since that size comes only in a race/track only. As far as 225's go, it'd depend on your wheel offset. 215's are a really popular size= a lot more tire choices. 215's are 24.6'' os diameter= little shorter than the 225's 25"-25.1" os diameter, yet a little taller than your 205-40's= 23.9".

if your wanting a good all around size, 215/40-17 or 215/45-17. I test fit a set of 235/40-17 tires mounted on a set of 17x7.5-40 wheels on a friends zx3 (FRPP) they rubbed on everything!

On a 2012 Focus, has anybody tried an 18x9 +35ish offset with a 225/40? or something close?

Yeah not really sure how offset works either haha.. guess ill have to google it. Ive got my eye on some 215-45-17 michelin super sports though... i dont think i want to go 225 if theres a chance of rubbing and ruining almost 200$ tires.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types (measured in millimeters).*

Zero Offset

The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive

The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative

The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected. When the width of the wheel changes, the offset also changes numerically. If the offset were to stay the same while you added width, the additional width would be split evenly between the inside and outside. For most cars, this won't work correctly.
