Exclamation 2003 SE DOHC 2.3L overheating!

Recently purchased a 03 ford focus SE 2.3L that only has 90,xxx miles on it. Long story shot temp guage showed over heating after a while of city driving but not on freeway. Found coolant was bubbling up considerably and overfilling. Flushed radiator, put new coolant, tried new radiator cap, checked thermostat which does open and close correctly, installed new EGR valve which was corroded and leaking. Still overheats! I'm very frustrated and a friend told me it could be temp sensors or waterpump which are all originals on car. Anys suggestions and would any of those have to do with coolant bubbling and overfilling?

remember in the heat that most of the country is having right now combined with sitting around idling in the city (no airflow to radiator) that things will get hot faster than normal. if it's only doing it in the city and not on the highway or what maintaining a decent speed then it could be that. maybe go with a lower temp thermostat and check sensors. if it does start to heat up, roll the windows down and turn on the heater. may be uncomfortable, but will help pull some heat from the motor.

Have you heard the fans turning on?

Might be your resistor.

It's the fans.... or something that is supposed to turn them on. Giveaway is the fact that it's fine when you're moving at speed. Plenty of air over the radiator then, slow down and no more air.

It could also be the water pump causing an overheat at only low speeds. If the impellers are worn off, it won't be moving that much coolant at 1200 RPM or whatever you're creeping along at. One you get moving - it's much less strain on the cooling system and the water pump is spinning faster and moving a bit more coolant

Around 90K, I had to replace the resistor, and thermostat, and that fixed my overheating problem.
