Possible intake idea
I haven't gotten in there to look at it, but I was thinking I could completely remove the air box, fix a coupler to the maf where the filter usually attaches, and run piping into the fender or something to make it more like a true cold air intake.
I haven't actually looked at everything so I don't know if this can be done so don't flame me if it can't. If it can, I may use some spare parts and fab something up. |

I've taken a look at something similar-the couplers are a little expensive. Don't forget that you have to come up with something to re-locate your MAF and create a pig-tail for the harness.
Doable, with enough mechanical knowledge.

Here is where my buddy goes to order his piping and couplers. This will give you an idea of cost for plumbing - http://www.extremepsi.com/store/home.php

I thought maybe I could just cut off everything on the housing except where the filter attaches. Could run a pipe from there down and into the fender somewhere. The idea came from the newmission mod and the fact that I don't have the active grill shudders so I thought I could do something different.

I think you would have to research into MAF sensors, I seem to remember that there is a reason it is right next to the filter instead of so far downstream. I don't recall exactly, but I like seeing people think outside of the box. A little research never hurts.
Unless you research to the extent that I do. Then nothing ever gets accomplished.

From what I've gathered I can mount the maf any distance from the filter or tb, as long as I have about 6" of straight pipe leading up to it before a bend. This might make it tight under the hood, but it could possibly be done.
