Bought a set of SVT side skirts from cjheck. Here's the brief description from the classified ad:

I have silver svt side skirts. The cap on the passenger side skirt is broken, so it has to be held on by 3m tape. These were on my wagon for a few months but I dont need them anymore. 120$ shipped

They are only, in the academic sense, "silver". They were once silver. They have since been apparently sanded down - partially. They were thrown in a box, stacked together, with no packing material or wrapping or anything between the two skirts, so they also rubbed each other raw all the way from New Jersey to Ohio. Granted, there is no other structural damage on them; they will take paint fine. But I bought these because they were silver. I need a new skirt and don't want to deal with the paint shop. I can't use these without taking them to a paint shop. If he'd have been up-front and honest about the finish in his original ad, I would have never bought them.

I sent him a PM, which he read on the 6th, and he's apparently just ignoring me now.

So let this be a lesson, kids. Get better photos.

So u purchased USED 10 yr old skirts and expected them to be mint? The title didnt say mint in box. Seems like a buyer and sellers fault for not describing to the fullest and buyer not confirming condition. At least u found some rare parts that arent made anymore!

Mint or not, what gets me is that he didn't package them properly so they would've been damaged anyway. On large items I'll custom size a box to save the buyer on shipping cost and pack it properly. Packing materials arent hard to come by, you can go to a store and ask for free used materials. I worked in a furniture/appliance store warehouse and I'd give people giant boxes and foam if they asked nicely.

Maybe you can spray them with clear coat if the paint damage isn't that bad.

Hey the driver's side skirt on my 10-year old car is mint. I take care of my stuff. The only reason for needing a new one is from some road debris on my passenger's side. Perhaps I'm the exception, then...

Buyer beware, half the used stuff being sold is garbage and the seller is lying about it so he can turn his problem into your problem.

That goes for all things, not just this incident.

I feel your pain andy I recently bought some used windshield fluid nozzles instead of going to my local junk yard I came on to see if I could help a fellow member put some $ in there pocket I posted on here and was contacted by another member who had some.

I got some pics of the product up close from him( which was a crap tastic cell pic) sent him money, waited 2 weeks to get them threw USPS....... and when I got them it looked like they had been on the hood and the hood was used as a sled as they had flat spots on them and to top it off the guy PM'ed me to complain he had to pay a few extra bucks because he couldn't ship them in a envelope ?

I'm with dementedSVTF on this, as a buyer you have to be cautious, there is no mention of the condition of the side skirts...Tough luck bud, not really his fault, you didn't have to by them, yea he made a dick move by not being completly honest, but I've bought so much stuff on here that weren't exactly mint or anything near what the ad says LOL, but you don't see me raggin on ever FF member, Especially for it being USED...when things are used, your expectation of things being mint go out the window.period.

This sucks when it happens. I understand you were just going by his word. No matter what I always ask for extra pictures. I also make sure that they are recent pictures and not what it looked like 6 months ago. I look at it this way, if the person is willing to sell something to me I am wanting to see the item in a 360 degree aspect so I can see if there are any flaws or problems with it. Always take your necessary precautions because in the end, you don't want to waste your money.
