3 years of free GPS?

Someone where my wife works says GPS is free for 3 years. Is that true? How do you sign up for it if it is?

Actually there are several free navigation apps for iPhone/Android phones. GPS is satellite signals that are always free with a wide variety of devices to receive them at a wide variety of prices.

If you're referring to the ability to send directions to the car and see turn by turn directions in the instrument cluster screen you would need to have either sync+myford, or sync+ myford touch and have signed up for the sync services which at least in 2012 were complimentary on any Focus sold with sync+ myford, or myford touch. However in 2013 it will only be standard on models with MFT for the three year period. You would sign up using sync my ride and activate sync services. After 3 years (which you have to renew every year even if its still free the first three years) its currently going for $60/ year to use sync services when its not included with the car.

Hi, sterg!

I believe you're referring to SYNC Services. The info provided by suss6052 is spot-on! Have you created a SYNC owner account on SyncMyRide.com yet? If you PM me your VIN, I can confirm whether or not you have this complimentary subscription. In the meantime, more info can be obtained here:

https://secure.SyncMyRide.com/Own/Mo...rServices.aspx

Thanks for the info, suss6052!

Wait.. they charge for GPS?

GPS is a free technology. Once you have the equipment and the software, its yours to use. The only charge you should ever have to pay is for upgrades to the hardware or software.

If ford is charging for gps service, thats pretty low.

Sync Services isn't quite the same as a GPS device and maps

SYNC Services is a subscription-based feature that provides simple voice-command access to traffic reports, turn-by-turn directions, business searches and your favorite news, sports and weather. Most new owners will receive a complimentary subscription for 3-years. There's only a cost involved if the customer wishes to keep the service after that time. The annual $60 cost breaks down to only $5 a month! Not a bad deal, IMO.

Thats understandable, I didn't realize that traffic and other such data was included.
