K&N CAI Filter vs K&N Filter Only

Anyone know if the air filter that comes with the K&N CAI is the same as the filter you'd get if you put a K&N filter in the stock airbox?

If so, do we know if K&N would sell the CAI without the filter for folks who already have their K&N filter?

The CAI filter is not the same size or shape as the drop-in filter. The drop-in filter is shaped the same as the stock filter, and would not fit in the location provided by the CAI.

Ok I figured as much. Thanks for the info.

Follow-up, then... has anyone dyno'd the K&N drop-in filter (or plan to)?

I'm going to be on the dyno tomorrow and I have a drop-in. I will post on my build thread with the numbers.

That's freakin awesome. Thanks! Get us a baseline if you can, of course.

Unfortunately, I don't have the stock filter. I will probably put the snorkel back on, and that will be my baseline.

Another forum member posted his actual baseline with a DCT, I'll see if I can drum it up later as a rough idea.

Hmm... Well tell ya what, how much would a new OE filter cost? I'd be willing to contribute toward that for your baseline, in the name of science. Or seriously, I know it's slightly shady, but just return the darn thing--no harm done running the filter for 2 minutes.

We'll never get apples-to-apples comparing to another car on another dyno in a different location, especially when we're looking at what is probably a small difference (3 whp, maybe?). And if you're going to put $50 or $100 toward dyno runs what's another $20 for a filter for a good baseline that you can use for all your mods...
