please help ford focus lx 2000 will not start or turn over. guages and lights radio and all works

I bought a car off craigslist . i know shame on me. but I did and it worked and I parked it for a sec went back and it would not start. It had had a little bit if trouble starting for a second when I got it bit then it worked and the key is very hard to get out of the ignition. But any way I tried and tried to start it and the gauges worked and radio the lights were bright and normal and the car just wouldn't make noise or anything i meaj there was a very small hum when trying to start it but that was it . I need help what is the problem.

What engine do you have? Zetec or SPI?

Which I am willing to bet you have, based on the year and model.

Could be as simple as the ignition cylinder or the key which both can be taken care of easily and at a reasonable price from a locksmith. The ignition cylinders fail and are a common problem among early Foci. The situation that you are describing happened to me a few months ago and it turned out to be the ignition cylinder.

And ignition cylinders aren't too expensive either are they?

Ford dealership in motor city will charge you $200. I had mine done by a locksmith for $90 and my insurance company reimbursed me the full $90 because it was covered under my roadside assistance policy.

Google spi valve-seat issue.

See if the previous owner has the valve-seats fixed, if not then that should be your next concern.

Is it a 5 speed? If so, see if the thing will bump start if you turn the key on and roll it a few miles an hour and dump the clutch in first.....or have someone tow you about 5mph and let the clutch out with the key on......
