Bluetooth MAP Support added to iOS 6

Buried way in the back of Apple iOS 6 announcement on Monday is a huge new feature for MyFord Touch users who have an iPhone. They announced that iOS 6 will support the Bluetooth MAP protocol.



Look right next to the upper right hand corner of the iOS 6 icon its very faint, but its there.

For those of you who don't know what Bluetooth MAP is, it is a messaging protocol which will allow the iPhone to take advantage of MyFord Touch's built in text messaging features. Something that has Apple has never supported.

Some people are already playing with it. It sounds like its not fully functional yet, but it is a beta.

Yeah, I noticed this Monday when I was looking at the same screen that you posted a shot of (of course, it was specifically what I was looking for). Here is hoping it not only works, but the OS update doesn't end up undoing any features that currently work. Seems promising though.

It was also interesting that they (Apple) talked about one-touch Siri/car integration and listed several manufacturers already on board with Ford being conspicuously absent from the list.

I wouldn't expect Ford to include Siri integration since they use Microsoft Sync. I don't think Microsoft would want their voice system superceded by an Apple product.

Yeah, figured as much but there is also the "keeping up with the Jones'" factor and if it ends up taking off, others may end up with a value-added proposition while Ford sits on the sidelines.

Ford wouldn't use Apple technology just as Apple would not introduce a Windows 8 tablet.

Both MFT and Apple (Siri) use Nuance voice recognition technology. Nuance recently announced their own system as well.

You do know who saved Apple from bankrupcy in the '90, don't you? And who baillout it? Microsoft did, so I will not be so drastic, when we all know that Apple runs on Intel platforms also.

Funny thing is, Sync is worthless without a phone.

If not right away, I bet Ford includes Siri support soon enough. iPads and iPhones are too common for Ford to ignore them completely
