I understand not wanting to do it. I don't really want to either, but I've had no luck finding anything OEM and compatible options are very limited/expensive.

I found a few interesting ones on ebay.. They make no mention of whether they work with the reverse lockout on our vehicles, but it looks like they just have a larger thread and have adaptors of different sizes that may work?

Not really sure what those are for without seeing it up close. Seems like it to me though.. Take a look for yourself if you like.

Just ditch the lock out. Why do you need it? Have you ever almost put it in reverse going from 3-4 ever? Not to mention it wouldn't anyway(very easily). I will be removing mine soon to run the billet aluminum knob my friend gave me when he sold his car.

Ok.. so, it turns out the reverse lockout is crazy simple to remove. I wasn't able to find anything saying how to online.

Just need the shift boot up(removed by pushing the plastic part forward at the center from the hand brake toward the front of the car and it pops right out.), once you're in there, it's pretty obvious what needs to be done. There is a plastic tube over the shifter rod that is in two pieces, the lower one of the two is what stops it from going into reverse unless it's lifted. Remove that and you're good to go. Took me two minutes and that includes trying to figure out what needed to be done. As long as you're careful with it, it can be put back in place later if the need/want should arise.

For anyone worried about accidentally shifting into reverse like I was, it's still really hard to do. I tried purposely going from 5th to reverse and it still stopped me. I had to let it go back to center neutral before I could get it to go into reverse. So, unless you really slam on that shifter from 5th back down, you shouldn't have any problems.

The plastic part that lifts into the shift knob for the reverse lockout is held there by a zip tie. Easily removed if you want it to be. Can either cut that and replace it with a new one to retie it to your new knob or most aftermarket shift boots i've seen have a string you can tie. I would think the zip tie on the inside looks cleaner and less likely to loosen though.

Going to grab a new knob tomorrow. I might also grab one of these shift boots soon too. They sell them in blue or red.

Its actually impossible to go from 5th to reverse. There is a heart shaped block off that won't allow you too. I saw it in a tear down thread a while back. pretty cool design imo.
