Ordered a 2012 Focus SE on May 5th (Not a Single Word)
I ordered my 2012 Ford Focus SE on May 5th and I haven't heard a single word from my dealer. The last time I emailed him was 8 days ago and my salesperson told me that he should have a date for me in a couple of days. Haven't heard from him since. I know I am buying an economy car, so I'm not expecting platinum, 7 star service, but the complete lack of communication is a disappointing. The salesman is a man of few words, and not the friendliest I've come across, so I don't feel like pestering him...
I guess my question is... should I have gotten a VIN and build date by now?

I ordered my car on May 7th. Had a VIN on May 10th. Build date is May 29th (tomorrow). ETA is June 11th.
All that said, I think a lot depends on whether or not your dealer has allocations. I don't understand the process too well, but I'm pretty sure that different dealers are ranked and prioritized by Ford according to how many cars of a particular model that they sell. So even though two orders go in on the same day, the one from a high-volume dealer may get fulfilled weeks before the one from a low-volume dealer. From what I understand, Ford pulls orders once per week, but if your dealer has no allocations for that week, the order would just get banked until that dealer gets an allocation. Or something. I could just be talking totally out of my @$$. I'm kind of piecing together information from multiple sources. In any case, I don't think it's too much to ask to expect weekly contact from your salesman at this point. If you haven't contacted him in 8 days, I don't think you should feel guilty about pressing him for more info at this point (considering you placed your order over 3 weeks ago). Good luck. |

I think allocations are for dealer floor stock cars... And ordered cars already sold just get in line straight up, no prioritization applies,
Now if they ordered your car "As if" it is a car for stock.. then yeah you may get shuffled back.. And THAT is totally on the dealer. |

I think my worry would be if the order got put in before the deadline.
