2012 Focus SE cruise control

I have a 2012 Ingot Silver Focus SE hatchback. I am starting to have problems with my cruise control. Sometimes the cruise control does not engage. Anybody else have this problem. Should I consult my dealer about the problem?

Definitely contact the dealer. There was another thread >> HERE << recently on the same subject that might be of help.

Yes contact dealer, check my post kindly linked above. If there are no codes you like me could have a bad clock spring.

I have no codes, no check engine light. I was driving today with cruise control on then it just disengaged on its own and I could not engage it again for a few miles then it worked again. Going to contact dealer to have it checked out and get the TSB about powertrain module reprogrammed too while I am there. Hopefully it is nothing major.

Next time it happens, pull the brake (and/or clutch) pedal with your toes while you are trying to re-engage the cruise. Some of these sensors are right on the margin of on/off position. It may even be adjustable.

I'd definitely take it in. Cruise control is a complex mechanism, and often hard to diagnose.

Hey amplifier28,

Pleasure to meet you!

After you make an appointment with the local Ford dealer, shoot me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number. I'll escalate the cruise control issue to the Customer Service Manager for your area.

Take care!

Noemi

Just bought a used 2012 Focus SEL Hatchback. I love driving the car, but my CC only seems to work 10-15% of the time. If it turns on, everything works fine, but most of the time nothing happens when I hit the ON button. Going to take it in to the dealer in the next few days. I'll keep up on this board.

It's good to see that someone from Ford Service has been keeping up on this thread for over a year.

Definitely let me know how your service appointment goes, Gringo69. If you need my help, PM me your name, daytime phone number, mileage, VIN, and dealership info.

Thanks!

Service

I have an appointment on Monday. I have been experimenting a bit and have found a way to get the Cruise Control to come on.

First I start the car. Then I use the lever that allows you to position the steering wheel. If I use a little force and bump the steering wheel upwards, and hit the control button after each bump, after about 2 or 3 bumps, the controls start to work.

I will show them this on Monday, and I hope it speeds up the diagnostics.

Update:

took it to the dealer today and they verified that the wiring harness is bad and they are going to replace it on Wed.
