What is up with my rear suspension... another SQUEAK question

Any time I hit any kind of bump, the rear squeaks. Both rear sides. When I was at ford with the stupid headlight problem I asked them.. and they said a section of the new foci have recalls on them for that exact reason. They said all they do is flip some little plate thingy over, and it stops it. Of course mine wasnt in that section of foci. I dont know, but its extremely annoying. Anyone have any clue what it could be? I dont have anything aftermarket done, its all stock...

I'm going with one of two things...

1st:

Grease the ebrake cables where they go through the brackets/bodywork. In fact I can almost gaurantee this is the problem. Mine did the same exact thing.

2nd:

Grease the swaybar bushing that mount to the rear subframe. This will be the least likely, unless you replaced the bushing with poly ones.

My money is on #1.

Since it is a 2006 SE then it will not have a rear sway bar if all as stock. I am not sure if the SAP has a rear sway - but I know the stock 2006 Se does not.

I have a 2006 SE too and get a similar but small squeak. I tracked it down to the rear seat belt mechanism. Try pulling the rear seat belts out and snatch them so the are tight and then try clicking them in their locking points. This stops the little ratchet moving about.

thats my 2 cents

Trace your rear e-brake cables and find where they go through the goofy metal hanger just in front of the rear wheels. Check the rubber sheath that the cable runs inside of and you will find that the rubber sheath is worn right through to the metal outer core of the brake cable. You need to fabricate a new sheath to cover the worn through area and the squeek will disappear. I'm trying to get the stealer to replace my cables under warranty but they are whining about it so I'll probably have to chat with the FORD area rep. SIGH!

Cheers!

Mike

I asked myself the same question until I actually got under the car and had an accomplice gently push up and down on the suspension. As soon as the car moved up/down I traced the noise to the spot where the e-brake cable ran through this "hanger". I moved the cable to pull it away from the hanger and the noise immediately stopped. I fixed a band-aid wrap around the bare spot and never had a further noise until just recently when my band-aid fix wore through as well. The noise/squeek came back immediately. We go to the stealer next week to fight for a warranty fix - wish me luck!

Cheers!

Mike
