universal flat black touch up paint from autozone got rid of the open surface area, but it doesn't look flawless by any means.

Searched "steering wheel button", and got this thread out of around 12 results. So I'm reviving it, lol.

Was trying to figure out where to buy paint other than the regular places. Hobby store paint would be my suggestion. Like a place where they sell model cars, airplanes or boats that you assemble. I used semi-gloss black. Would prolly be better if I went a little less glossy...maybe a flat.

Worked ok, for a half ass attempt by someone who isn't the best with a brush. Didn't do any prep, basically. I could see it work really, really well, if I decide to sand the edges where the paint was flaked with maybe 400 grit and maybe then brush it on or even air brush it on.

Can't justify $90 for new buttons that will do the same thing eventually, and especially needing to remove the air bag.

No pics of result (I'm at work). If anyone cares, I'll post a pic.

Regular sharpie won't work. I'm gonna do a little sanding and try and Sharpie paint pen. All of my steering wheel controls have chips and missing paint.

Honestly, find a local vinyl maker / decal printer. Have him take measurements of the buttons, he SHOULD know how to make the vinyls exact fit.

On second thought, because I am an experienced designer, I'll just make them myself and you can send a guide to a company of your choice, and have them printed.

I used to make vinyl graphics for my own car club. Could do it for FF :) Let me see what I can come up with so everyone can get customized buttons for their focus :P

I'll make them same as these are made, but a bit different. Since the base is white on the buttons, the text or icons will always be white once applied because it will be cut out.

I will buy some from you. My cruise control buttons on my 2010 are starting to do it.
